Keyboarding

It is required that all students take keyboarding.  The district recognizes the importance of keyboarding as an entry level course in gaining the required skills that are necessary to compete in a technology-driven society and take advanced computer courses.  It is a prerequisite for all future computer classes.

Keyboarding is a one-semester course and is divided into three different modules.

Module 1 focuses on teaching good technique skills and touch typing to all students enrolled.  Students learn to correctly type all the letters, numbers, and symbols on the keyboard.  Rules of correct spacing, punctuation, capitalization, and typing of numeric expressions are also practiced.

Module 2 focuses attention to formatting standard documents such as announcements, memorandums, letters, envelopes, reports and tables.  Students are expected to improve their typing speed and accuracy while producing various documents.

Students who complete Modules 1 and 2 in a semester, with an "A" or "B", will be able to enroll in Computer Applications I.  Students who complete keyboarding with a "C" or less will be required to take Keyboarding Applications I prior to enrolling in Computer Applications I.
